Hair question! answers please !?

hey my hair is naturaly straight (and slightly kinky) and it really doesnt suit me. It is fairly long (down to the middle of ma boobs lol :P) and with a few layers the shortest layer being just below my ear lobe. I really would like to get a curl perm like this :

how long do you think i would have to grow my hair for it to look like this when curled because i know that when you curl your hair it looks shorter than when straight (obviously lool)

So yh, where would I have to grow my hair down to and how long approx would this take (my hair at the moment is mid boob length lol :D)

you would have to grow it down to your waist but it probably wont look like that good.
