How can I get beachy waves?

I want loose, messy beach waves, kinda like this:

I have naturally straight hair, but kind of kinky, and it's just past my shoulders. What kind of techniques and products should I use, and also, I would like to know how to do it without using any spray if that's possible. Thanks! =]

I have about the same hair as you, and I use a texturuzing spray, (I use Sunsilk Wave of Envy Sea Mist) and spray that over damp, towel dried hair, and scrunch while your doing it. Air dry. (I have frizzy hair, so I also add some frizz serum).

If your looking to not buy anything, you can make a salt spray (1/4 cup salt, 1/3 cup water in a spray bottle) and spray that over towel dried hair, then scrunch and put it in a messy bun. Wait untill it's almost dry, then air dry the rest.

An important thing is to not use any heat tools, so it's more natural, and to not use a brush, but finger comb your hair.

Good Luck ! =]

use a curling iron. its very easy to achieve beachy waves with a hot tool. you just have to play around with it and practice. be sure the hair has at least 1 in. of space until the next curl on the curling iron.

It's hard without using any spray, so I'll give you directions with spray, and you can take it out if you absolutely can't use it. 3 steps.

1. Starting in front, wrapping two inch sections around a large barrel curling iron. Hold for 3 seconds, then slip the iron out and bobby pin the curl to your head.

2. Finish curling your hair. Once your hair is in pin curls, spritz your hair with a long lasting hairspray. Let your hair sit for 20 minutes.

3. Take out those annoying bobby pins, and then spray your hair with a lightweight shine spray, but don't spray the roots. Run your fingers from the curls, to loosen them for a beachy look.

Hope this helps!

To get beachy waves, you use a one to two inch curling iron (one inch for more of a bedhead look and two inch for softer waves), seperate several small sections of your hair (I do mine in layers), and with one of the sections at a time, wrap it around the curling iron, but leave one inch out at the bottom and one at the top. It's very important that you leave an inch out at the bottom and the top because that's what seperates waves from curls! Anyway, you do that until your head is full of beachy waves, and it should last pretty long without hairspray or product! Good luck!
